Sony invested $34 million to convert its Thalgau plant into an optical microlens facility. The Austrian factory previously produced 600,000 discs daily but will drop output significantly by January 2028 when PlayStation ends disc-based games. All 300 employees remain employed while retraining for new manufacturing tasks.
