A UIUC study found that restricting threads to a single socket via numactl improved runtime by up to 3x compared to the default Linux EEVDF scheduler and the LAVD scheduler on a dual-socket Xeon system. The researchers discovered a fixed 10-minute benchmark duration had masked a significant speedup in the mediawiki workload.
