A dual-Xeon E5-2650 v4 home server bought for under $150 spiked the owner's electricity bill to nearly nine times its usual amount. Even after BIOS tweaks, the system idled at 120W, versus 20-30W for modern mini-PCs. Replacement motherboards for old Xeon systems are hard to find.
