Teen summer employment hits worst level since 1948

Teen summer employment is headed for its worst year since 1948. About one-third of 16- to 19-year-olds were employed last summer, down from a peak of about 60% in the late 1970s. Frustrated jobless young people report few opportunities despite strong academic credentials.
