Meta removes NameTag facial recognition from app

Meta removed unreleased NameTag facial recognition code from its Meta AI app one day after WIRED exposed it was embedded on over 50 million phones. The system was designed to create faceprints from Ray-Ban smart glasses and store unrecognized faces locally. Meta called the feature purely exploratory.
