IBM has built a prototype chip the size of a fingernail that packs nearly 100 billion transistors using a three-dimensional technique. The 0.7nm design offers 50% higher performance and 70% greater energy efficiency than the company's previous 2nm chip. Commercial devices could arrive within 10 years.
