Linux kernel moves to Rust, says maintainer

Linux stable kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman declared the Rust experiment over at Open Source Summit India 2026 in Mumbai. Rust is now a permanent part of Linux. Kroah-Hartman estimates 80% of kernel CVEs would be eliminated by Rust. New graphics subsystem drivers will only be accepted in Rust. The Android Binder C version will be replaced by Rust.
