McKinsey: AI Costs Rise Despite Cheaper Models

McKinsey partners Tanguy Catlin and Lari Hämäläinen said on Tuesday that while AI intelligence costs have fallen since GPT-4, enterprise AI bills keep climbing because agents consume vastly more reasoning. The same task can cost up to 30 times more from one run to another. They urged task-level cost measurement and workflow redesign.
