University of Cambridge researchers found that applying constant pressure of 12.5 bar (181 psi) to lithium-ion pouch cells can double their lifespan. The study, published in Nature Energy, used pneumatic bellows to apply steady pressure. Too little pressure caused cathode cracking; too much caused lithium plating on the anode.
