Researchers at Paradigm Shift discovered a vulnerability called usbliter8 in older iPhones with A12 and A13 chips. The flaw resides in SecureROM, immutable code that Apple cannot fix. It allows attackers with physical access to override the boot process and compromise the Secure Enclave Processor. Migrating to newer hardware is the only mitigation.
