Aging iPhones face unpatachable BootROM flaw

A new BootROM vulnerability called usbliter8 affects iPhones with A12 and A13 chips. The exploit uses a hardware bug in the USB controller to gain control during startup. Apple cannot patch the flaw, as it resides in low-level hardware code. Switching to a newer device is the only mitigation.
