Politecnico di Milano researchers developed a nonflammable gel membrane for fluoride-ion batteries published in 2026. The material offers approximately 600 watt-hours per kilogram, roughly double the 150, 250 watt-hours of standard lithium-ion batteries. This innovation enables room temperature operation, eliminating the 100, 150 degree heat required by previous generations for ionic conductivity.
