Researchers at Harvard SEAS demonstrated a method to protect quantum information using microscopic sound waves called phonons. The technique, led by Marko Lončar's lab, increased the coherence time of a silicon-vacancy spin in diamond by roughly a factor of three. This all-mechanical approach could enable compact quantum networks built on chips.
