India's UPI to Charge 0.4% Fee on Large Merchant Payments

From October 15, 2026, India's UPI will impose a 0.4% Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on person-to-merchant transactions above Rs 2,000. The fee is capped at Rs 300 for transactions of Rs 75,000 and above. Person-to-person transfers and smaller merchant payments remain free.
