Cash in lost wallets boosts return rates

In 355 cities across 40 countries, researchers handed in 17,303 lost wallets. Adding cash raised the email reporting rate from 40% to 51%, challenging assumptions about dishonesty. The study appeared in Science in 2019 as Civic Honesty Around the Globe.
