A federal judge approved Anthropic's $1.5 billion settlement with authors who sued over training Claude on pirated books from LibGen and Pirate Library Mirror. The deal, the largest copyright recovery in US history, resolves Bartz v. Anthropic. Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín trimmed attorneys' fees by roughly $86 million before granting final approval on July 20.
