The European Commission adopted a rule on July 14 adding smartwatches and fitness bands to the list of products exempt from the EU's Batteries Regulation. The rule requires portable batteries to be user-replaceable, but the new exemptions include electric toys and explosion-proof equipment. The regulation becomes law 20 days after publication in the Official Journal.
