Illinois governor approves crypto transaction tax despite industry uproar

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed a $55.9 billion state budget that includes a 0.2% privilege tax on digital asset transactions. The Crypto Council for Innovation called the tax unprecedented, arguing it burdens residents and drives innovation out of the state. Illinois is the only state taxing digital asset users this way.
