Scientists Find Corroded Radioactive Barrels in Atlantic

Between 1949 and 1982, more than 200,000 barrels of low-level radioactive waste were dumped on the Atlantic seafloor. Scientists descended in a crewed submersible and found many barrels corroded and degraded, their contents spilling across the seabed. The International Atomic Energy Agency recommends isolating such waste in robust containment for at least a few hundred years.
