AMC built the Eagle, a precursor to modern crossovers with four-wheel drive and ample ground clearance. Renault bought AMC in 1979, but sold it to Chrysler in 1987 after CEO Georges Besse was murdered. Amphicar produced the Model 770, a watertight boat-car hybrid, ending production in 1967 after roughly 4000 units.
