Spherephones warn of robots via spatial audio

Georgia Tech researchers built Spherephones, a wearable headset with four speakers per ear including one beneath the user. The device converts nearby robot movement into lo-fi melodies that change based on direction and speed to provide warnings before machines approach factory workers. This open-ear system helps users maintain awareness without breaking attention or ignoring traditional alarms during collaborative tasks involving humans and robots working side by side.
