Anthropic says Claude agents found a Crispr-like enzyme system called ART in 21.5 hours, scanning genomic databases. The September 23 claim drew praise and skepticism; the same reverse transcriptase was identified in a 2021 paper. One physical experiment is in an unpeer-reviewed technical report. Whether ART can edit genes remains unknown.
