GST Council to Weigh 18% Levy on UPI Merchant Fees

The GST Council meets October 7 to decide whether an 18 percent GST applies to merchant fees on UPI payments above Rs 2,000. A 0.4 percent merchant discount rate, capped at Rs 300, starts October 15. Merchants bear the fee but can claim input tax credit, softening the burden.
