A developer proposed and collaborated with Linux VFS maintainer Christian Brauner to add $ORIGIN support for relocatable binaries in Nix. The solution uses eBPF programs with binfmt_misc to dynamically select interpreters. A new loader substitution dispatch mode lets the kernel execute binaries natively while overriding PT_INTERP.
