Envision founder Lei Zhang unveiled Mission Gobi at VivaTech, aiming to build 5 GW of green AI computing in deserts by 2030. The plan reverses the datacenter playbook by making compute chase abundant renewable power rather than drawing electricity from homes and factories. A 2 GW system already runs in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia.
