Orbital Datacenter Plans Face Environmental Review

Environmental groups filed a petition with the FCC this week demanding an environmental impact assessment for orbital datacenters, which could involve 1 million satellites. Earthjustice filed on behalf of DarkSky International, Environment America, and PEER. The petition targets the entire sector, not any single company, and would halt proposals from SpaceX, Starcloud, and Blue Origin.
