UK announces new £1.1bn bet on AI infrastructure

The UK government announced a £1.1bn AI Hardware Plan to boost domestic chip and semiconductor development. The plan includes £750m for a national AI supercomputer, with £400m for next-generation semiconductors and £150m for novel chips from startups. A new fund backed by £150m from the British Business Bank will be led by Playground Global.
