Patent Offices Race to Define Who Owns Agentic AI Inventions

The five largest intellectual property offices, including the EPO and USPTO, agreed to strengthen cooperation on AI to improve examination quality. WIPO reported 3.7 million patent applications filed in 2024, a 4.9% increase driven by AI. The USPTO issued revised guidance stating only natural persons can be named as inventors.
