Meta Announces Petal Subsea Cable

Meta announced Petal, a subsea cable linking the United States and France, designed to carry a petabit of data per second across roughly 7,000 kilometers. Built with NEC and Sumitomo Electric, it targets commercial service in 2029. Meta says it will double transoceanic capacity without new power equipment, though that claim remains untested outside controlled trials.
