Study Busts Myths About Roman Road Network

Researchers led by archaeologist Tom Brughmans have published findings in Nature Communications challenging common assumptions about Roman roads. Using the itiner-e database of 186,411 miles of roads, the study concludes that not all roads led to Rome, the network was more effectively distributed across the empire, and the roads were not as exceptionally straight as popularly believed.
