Chinese authorities will scrap annual vehicle and vessel tax exemptions starting January 1, 2027. Plug-in hybrids, extended-range vehicles, fuel cell commercial trucks, and battery electric commercial vehicles lose their zero-tax status under the new rule effective next year. Battery electric passenger cars remain untaxed because they lack engine displacement.
