OpenAI Disrupts Model Distillation Campaign

OpenAI says it shut down an adversarial distillation campaign that copied its models' hidden reasoning. Activity began July 1, spiked to 16,000 requests from over 4,000 users on July 24 and 25, and involved more than 15,000 accounts, all closed by July 28. OpenAI links a core group to people associated with Moonshot AI. The same attack still worked on Microsoft Azure against OpenAI and Anthropic models.
