Mercury Shrinking 30% Faster Than Thought

Mercury has shrunk about 30% more than previously estimated, losing up to 14.5 miles in diameter as its iron core cooled over 4.5 billion years. The planet's rough, cratered surface had hidden the true extent of the contraction, which the BepiColombo spacecraft will now verify.
