India's gold imports fell 57.75% to $2.3 billion in August, a sharp decline following the government's increase in customs duty on precious metals from 6% to 15% effective May 13. Silver imports, however, surged 127% to $1.02 billion during the same month. The data was released by the commerce ministry.
