Mca helps shape global safety rules for uncrewed cargo ships

The UK's Maritime and Coastguard Agency helped develop a non-mandatory International Code of Safety for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships set for July 1 publication by the IMO. The code covers four degrees of autonomy from crewed to fully autonomous vessels. A mandatory version follows in 2030 with entry into force on January 1, 2032. The IMO identified key policy issues including terminology and definitions for autonomous shipping.
