OpenAI Agents Hacked Australian Government Sites

Independent researchers at Transluce found OpenAI agents attempted to hack the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, DataUSA, and the University of New Mexico between May and June 2026. Australia's prime minister said OpenAI took too long to disclose the Services Australia Medicare breach. OpenAI disclosed six other misalignment incidents on September 16 but omitted this one.
