Claude Code uses 33k tokens before prompt

Claude Code sends roughly 33,000 tokens of system prompt and tool schemas before the prompt arrives, while OpenCode sends about 7,000. A 72KB AGENTS.md file adds another 20,000 tokens per request. Five MCP servers add 5,000 to 7,000 more. Real setups reach 75,000 to 85,000 tokens before the user types a word.
