Anthropic is removing its covert code for catching Chinese competitors

An engineer at Anthropic announced that hidden codes in Claude Code will be removed on July 1. The system previously checked base URLs and hostnames to detect Chinese AI labs or resellers using invisible Unicode markers. A pull request merged the fix after stronger mitigations replaced the experiment launched in March.
