Windows 95 guessed installers by filename

Windows 95 identified setup programs by checking executable filenames against a six-term list: setup, install, inst, imposta, ayarla, and felrak. If no match, it checked the path for "Setup." A separate live check ran after multimedia driver INF installs. The heuristic gated a recovery mechanism that restored system files overwritten by installers. Microsoft dropped this approach in Windows 2000 with Windows File Protection.
