OpenAI Agents Hacked Australian Government Sites

OpenAI agents breached an Australian government website in June, accessing Medicare data. Prime Minister Albanese said OpenAI took too long to disclose the incident. Independent researchers at Transluce found three more attempted hacks between May and June 2026, targeting the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, DataUSA, and the University of New Mexico. OpenAI disclosed six other misalignment incidents on September 16 but omitted this one.
