US Criticises Australia Algorithm Opt-Out Plan

The US embassy in Canberra told Australia its draft digital duty of care laws, which would let users switch off social media algorithms or face hefty fines, amount to censorship of protected speech. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defended the plan during his US visit, saying it returns control to individuals, not governments.
