India's IRDAI has proposed rules barring banks and NBFCs from forcing borrowers to buy insurance to get a loan. Lenders could still offer lower interest rates if borrowers add term life or property cover, but must disclose rates with and without insurance and let borrowers pay premiums directly. The reforms are not final.
