Post-quantum signatures are 10 to 100 times larger than Bitcoin's current ones, potentially slowing the blockchain to under 1 transaction per second. StarkWare co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson advocates for ZK STARK aggregation to compress signatures into a tiny proof, while a block size increase remains a politically difficult alternative. Blockstream Research is developing smaller hash-based schemes like SHRINCS and SHRIMPS.
