UK bets on AI but needs network upgrades

British AI startups raised £6 billion in venture capital last year and over £3 billion more in early 2026. The government launched a £500 million Sovereign AI Unit to provide computing power and support. However, the UK ranks last among 16 Western European markets on 5G performance, with only 15% of sites using standalone architecture.
