Frances Gerety, a 31-year-old copywriter at N.W. Ayer, wrote "A Diamond Is Forever" in 1947 for a De Beers presentation. The slogan reshaped Western engagement customs and was named the slogan of the century by Advertising Age in 1999. Gerety never married and died in 1999.
