FAA Launches $875M AI Air Traffic System

The FAA began a 90-day soft launch of SMART, an AI air traffic tool built by Thales, Air Space Intelligence and Palantir, at three Washington, D.C.-area airports. The $875 million system predicts traffic flows and generates alternative routes. It aims for nationwide rollout by 2028, despite airlines' initial concerns and a shortage of over 1,500 air traffic controllers.
