MIT Spinout Turns Plastic Waste Into Building Materials

Atlas Building Composites, an MIT spinout, has supplied the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with recycled composite trusses to build a 40-foot bridge in a Massachusetts wetland. The company's AI-powered robotic system shreds single-use plastic, melts it, and fuses it with fiberglass to create building parts stronger than wood. The process uses waterless recycling and large-scale 3D printing.
