Samsung plans floating data centres by 2028

Samsung Heavy Industries plans to launch its first floating data centre by 2028. The 50MW barge will sit nearshore with onboard power and LNG fuel tanks. The design sidesteps land shortages and water limits, though saltwater corrosion and storm risks remain unproven. Rivals Mitsui OSK Lines and Hitachi aim for 2027.
