Windows 95 detected software installers by checking executable filenames against a hard-coded list of six terms: setup, install, inst, imposta, ayarla, and felrak. If no match was found, it checked whether "Setup" appeared anywhere in the executable's path. This heuristic gated a recovery mechanism that restored system files overwritten by installers.
