AA proposes manual conversion course for automatic drivers

The AA proposes letting automatic licence holders drive manuals after a conversion course and assessment, replacing a second full practical test. Automatic cars made up four of five new UK registrations last year, and automatic tests hit 29.4% of practical tests in 2025/26.
